Why game time can improve the way you relate to your family

by: Sofia Luna

Nowadays, most children and parents don’t spend quality time together with their own families. This happens because of their busy schedules since most of the time they are not in their houses at the same time. It is important to play fun games to be able to improve the environment and quality time which is reflected at home. One important thing to know is that family lasts forever, it will be healthy if you give it time.

Spending quality time with your family is very important it has various advantages which are: Builds your kids self-esteem, this means they have confidence in themselves and can build relationships easier; Creates better family bonds which will help create strong bonds and relationships; Cultivates positive behavior, kids will behave the way their parents do, the parents need to teach them depending on their values because if not they will start to lose control; Makes memories, this will help children share more information about their lives at home; Promotes a healthy lifestyle and finally relieves stress. By the simple fact of spending time together with your family, you could improve all of these aspects which will lead you to a happier life.

A recent study has been made by Visit Anaheim who are a tourism organization in the Southern California city. This research was made with the purpose of knowing how much quality time do families in America spend together. After surveying 2,000 parents of children who go to school. It has been shown that 60% of the parents who were surveyed considered family time a “problem”. On weekdays families only spend 40 minutes together and on weekends it kind of improves since they spend 2 to 3 hours. This proves that many families don’t realize and know the importance of quality and bonding time.

One easy and entertaining way that you could spend more quality time with your family is through games. You could play these games a Sunday night or an ordinary day where all of your family is gathered together with nothing to do. The first type of game you could play is classical. An option could be Charades, this game consists of dividing into equal teams. The next thing to do is to act out a movie, TV show, book, or character and the team has to guess the answer. In the end, the team who guessed the most characters is the one who wins. Another game could be Telephone which is about a person who starts the game by whispering a word or sentence in the ear of the person who is sitting beside him or her, this person then whispers to the other whatever they heard and this goes on until they get to the last person which has to say whatever they heard out loud. This activity is fun since most of the time they end out saying thins that make no sense to what they said before and every participant ends up laughing and having a good time. Some cheap games that parents could buy at the stores are Uno (which I recommend since I have played it with my family and we have created a better bond and relationship) Dominoes, among others.

An important thing to have in mind is not to spend to much quality time with your family. This is because most of the times when you are a lot of time with your family they start to get fed up and want to be someplace else. Then when having special game time with your family they won't value those moments and care less about the relationships they are creating. In conclusion, it is very important to spend quality time with your family, since it improves your way of relating and bonding with other people. Games are a fun and nice way to interact with your family when spending quality time together, making memories that will last forever. An important thing to remember is that time is priceless, not even with all of the money in this world you could buy it, seize it.
